Overview

The temperament of a child is widely acknowledged to be an important factor in their emotional and educational development. Research into child temperament has seen major advances over the last few decades. More recent insights have identified that risk factors for the development of behaviour disorders and school failure, as well as mental health problems, and have paved the way for innovative forms of screening, preventing and treatment. Product Description

The Integrative Child Temperament Inventory (ICTI) is used to assess aspects of temperament in children. It measures child temperament traits for which a broad consensus now exists across theories.

The ICTI assesses the following core dimensions of temperament:
• Frustration/Anger
• Behavioural Inhibition
• Activity Level
• Attention/Persistence
• Sensory Sensitivity

These dimensions of temperament are considered to be valid under any theoretical approach in the light of current knowledge. It can be used with children between two and eight years old and can be administered by qualified professionals working with children. The individual scales are combined to form a temperament profile.

The traits measured by the ICTI can provide insights into how behaviour may be affecting for example, performance at school or in the home. A possible use of the ICTI is as a screening tool to identify children that might benefit from an intervention.

Scoring and Administration

The ICTI is available in paper and pencil and digital formats. The test comprises 30 items that measure the five temperament dimensions and can be rated in approximately 30 minutes. Scoring takes about 10 minutes.

When a child is being tested in the context of an individual clinical assessment, a temperament profile cannot be considered in isolation but must take into account the upbringing of the child as well as current and previous diagnostic statuses.
