Overview

PPM-R is a battery of seven aptitude and ability tests designed to meet the demands of occupational test users seeking high levels of reliability, validity and flexibility. Each of the tests can be administered independently or as a battery for selection or development at work - especially where meaningful distinctions between different abilities need to be ascertained in order to provide a detailed picture of the aptitudes and abilities of the candidate.

Product Description

The seven independent tests available within the PPM-R suite are separated into two categories: Power and Performance.

The Power tests look to measure an individual’s aptitude or potential, and include Verbal, Numerical and Perceptual Reasoning. The Performance tests look to measure a person’s ability, or what they are currently able to do, and include Verbal Comprehension, Numerical Computation, Spatial Ability and Mechanical Understanding.

Each of the tests look to assess a specific psychological construct, as outlined below:

  • Verbal Reasoning - measures the test taker's capability to read, interpret and draw logical conclusions from written information
  • Numerical Reasoning - measures the test taker's capability to interpret numerical information by identifying the relationship between pairs of numbers
  • Perceptual Reasoning - measures the test taker's capability to solve problems presented in the form of diagrams
  • Verbal Comprehension - measures the test taker’s ability to comprehend written information
  • Numerical Computation - measures the test taker’s ability to use basic numerical principles, specifically addition, subtraction, multiplication and division
  • Spatial Ability - measures the test taker’s ability to manipulate two-dimensional shapes within their “mind’s eye”
  • Mechanical Understanding - measures the test taker’s understanding of how mechanical things work

The PPM-R tests can be used individually to measure a specific ability or aptitude, or grouped into smaller test suites that match the ability and aptitude requirements of specific roles. An example of a smaller test suite would be the combination of Numerical Computation, Spatial Ability and Mechanical Understanding tests to assess individuals for engineering or technical roles.

Online tests on HTS

Most of our online tests are available through the HTS platform – click here for an overview. To access tests on HTS, you can choose between two options:

  • Test with Hogrefe Administration Service (fixed price: cost of test + £40 admin fee + VAT) whereby Hogrefe manage the test administration process (set up link, download reports)
  • Self-administration (tiered prices) – whereby you have your own HTS account and manage the test administration process, allowing you access to discounted pricing based on the quantity of reports purchased.

To get set up with an HTS account, contact us by email, by phone on +44 (0)1865 797920 or you can purchase the tests directly on our website. We will then set up your account.

Account set up procedure

Once we have received your order, we set up the online HTS account for you, add your test licenses and send you your login details by email. This may take up to one working day.

Test administration process

Once you have received your account login details, you will be able to set up your questionnaires and send them via email to your test takers. Once they complete their test, the report is automatically formulated on the portal, and ready to be downloaded as a pdf.

With your login details, you will receive a user manual for the HTS platform, as well as tutorials explaining the process. Your Hogrefe customer support team is also available to assist you with the process and with any queries you might have.
