Product Description

The WHO International Classification of Functioning, Disability and Health (ICF) was developed to provide a standardised classification of functioning and disability. The framework provided by the ICF is detailed and complex, which means that it can be difficult to use in day-to-day clinical practice. The Mini-ICF-APP Social Functioning Scale was therefore created to allow the reliable and rapid measurement and recording of impairments of capacity. It is the first instrument of its kind.

Validated in the UK under the direction of Oxford-based consultant psychiatrist Andrew Molodynski, the Mini-ICF-APP Social Functioning Scale is designed for adults with mental health disorders of all types, and of varying degrees of disability.

The instrument does not rely on predetermined 'norms' or standard reference values as it is a personalised assessment with anchor points of an individual's strengths and weaknesses. There are however robust reliability and validity data from English studies as well as from the original German research and these are described in detail in the Mini-ICF-APP Social Functioning Scale manuals and in the peer-reviewed literature listed below.

View and download the Mini-ICF-APP flyer here for more information.

The test kit contains a pack of 50 scoring forms, a short, practical manual with UK validation data and case studies, and a longer reference manual, providing the theoretical basis of the test, its development, and further validity and reliability data. A video-based training programme is also available online - links are provided with sales of the kit.

Reliability

Results: The Mini-ICF-APP was found to have substantial internal consistency (Chronbach's ? 0.869-0.912) and all 13 items correlated highly with the total score. Analysis also showed that the Mini-ICF-APP had good test-retest (ICC 0.832) and inter-rater (ICC 0.886) reliability. No statistically significant association with length of sick leave was found, but the unemployed scored higher on the Mini ICF-APP than those in employment (mean 18.4, SD 9.1 vs. 9.4, SD 6.4, p < 0.001). The Mini-ICF-APP correlated highly with the other measures of illness severity and functioning considered in the study.
