The Coach on the Desktop (CotD) is an e-learning tool to help develop leadership judgement. A leader is able to enter details of a ‘real’ world task faced currently and the skills and abilities of the people concerned. CotD then asks no more than 10 pertinent, non-directive questions about the nature of the task and, based on the responses provided by the person, it then provides guidance on the ‘best bet’ style with which to approach the situation. However, it does not take away either the person’s freedom to make the decision he or she wants, or reduce personal responsibility for the outcomes.
